For those of you who don’t know, Autoimmune issues are close to my heart. Quite literally. I grew up in a major stress environment and started to have massive digestive issues at the age of 16. With every major stress and each trauma that I survived, my health declined more and more. The doctors always gave me a clean bill of health, but I knew something was wrong.
In 2013, my husband passed away and the full effect of grief ravaged my body. Autoimmune disease that I had never been diagnosed with ransacked my cells and tissues. My hair started to thin at an alarming speed, I suffered from Chronic Fatigue so badly that I would have to rest in the hallway after using the restroom to make it back to my bedroom only to collapse. I broke out in full body hives for weeks at a time, I lost too much weight way too fast, and I could not take deep breaths. I was afraid to go to sleep at night because I could not breathe properly and thought I might die in my sleep. The list goes on and on and on of the things that were happening to my body.
Finally, by chance, I met a doctor who knew that prescription drugs would not help my situation. After diagnosing me with Celiac, Reynauds and a few other autoimmune issues, she introduced me to a new way, a holistic way, of eating, moving, breathing and living. My hair is now healthy, my eyes are bright, I am breathing much better, and best of all, I don’t feel like I am going to die anymore! Yes, I had to make serious and lasting lifestyle changes, but while interesting to implement into my life at first, they are just part of my day now.
What did I do?
- I started eating “Autoimmune Paleo”
- I began doing Qi Gong
- I started walking regularly
- I began doing deep breathing exercises
- I got on a circadian rhythm
- I cut out all caffeine
- I incorporated massage, acupuncture and reiki
Way too many people deal with autoimmune disease, but due to the limited science available, most are not sure what to do about it. Even doctors are baffled because they have not been taught about lifestyle changes. Those of us that do have autoimmune disease are the ones that will change things!
